Gelimiteerde oplages, uitsluitend verkrijgbaar bij de onafhankelijke platenzaken, van o.a. The Black Keys, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Kings of Leon, Janis Joplin, Rolling Stones, Wilco, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, .... (meer info via onze recordstoreday-site). Stef Kamil Carlens doet Handelsbeurs verstommen

recensie van Pieter-Jan Symons in De Morgen (bron: site De Morgen) "In afwachting van de nieuwe Zita Swoonplaat trakteert Stef Kamil Carlens de mensheid nog op enkele soloconcerten. Carlens in een fort van gitaren, gestript van afleiding. Met die eigenzinnige en adembenemende formule vergaarde hij een beroemde status, en die status deed hij in Gent alle eer aan.

Geef de schuchtere Schotenaar een barkruk, een stuk of wat gitaren die expliciet in klankkleur verschillen, een stompbox en een microfoon en je krijgt een avond muziek die uitblinkt in onversneden puurheid gepresenteerd op een gouden klankschoteltje.

Laat dat tafereel zich dan nog afspelen in een zaal waar de galm aanvoelt als een fleecedekentje en de vlinders beginnen te dansen in onze onderbuik. Reeds vanaf de eerste noten waarbij hij de metronoom als slim en sober percussie-element inzette, deed hij de Handelsbeurs verstommen. Ontdaan van het soms wat te corpulente additief dat een backing band kan zijn, tokkelde hij zich een tracé over de hals van zijn dobro, om niet veel later Malinese riedels op zijn ukelele te schilderen die er ons nog even attent op maakten dat Ali Farka Touré nog lang niet vergeten is. Dat zijn gitaren echter een extra facet zijn, bewees hij even door 'Je range' om te turnen tot een ingetogen pianoballad die wat opgewerkt werd met sacrale orgeldeuntjes. Het oorspronkelijk haast swingende 'L'opaque paradis' werd vervolgens met behulp van een gitaar, die dronken van reverb leek, gedrenkt in een gracieus sfeerbad dat beelden opriep van een struinende regennacht over de kasseien van de Parijse binnenstad en de ontegensprekelijk romantische melancholie daarvan. Dat hij dan nog eens 'Blues for Sammy' en 'Jo's Wine Song' op een zodanig aandoenlijke manier aankondigde door de respectieve thema's van die songs te ontrafelen - zijn dode hond en een vrouw met wie hij menig glas hief - zorgde voor een magische extra. Niet alleen herleidde hij de Handelsbeurs zo tot een intieme kroeg, hij etaleerde ook even zijn kunde om te graven naar een emotie of personage, om dan met een inlevingsvermogen dat we alleen kennen uit de legende van Dylan, zijn song te worden. Meester Bob Niet moeilijk dat hij dan met 'Most of the Time' ook een Dylansong in de set smokkelde, het zodanig uitkleedde dat hij het zich eigen maakte, maar dan toch een zeurderig accent in zijn timbre legde en de laatste lettergrepen inslikte als al dan niet verholen ode aan meester Bob. En hoewel een song als 'Big City' die gaat over hoe een vader en een zoon gevangen in een roadtrip, veroordeeld tot elkaar, raakpunten gaan vinden, geeft de eigenlijke tekst slechts sporadisch zijn geheimen vrij. En toch weet Carlens weer met enkele minutieus gekozen woorden zijn punt te maken. Wanneer hij dan een enkele bis speelde in de vorm van Dylans 'Every Grain of Sand' en op de koop toe naar diens toenmalige wedergeboorte knipoogde door te grappen dat het nummer over Europese kathedralen gaat, werd het hem zelfs vergeven dat er geen tweede toegift volgde. "Ik zit er zowat door", wist hij nog mee te geven. Logisch, hij had ons alles al gegeven."
